Yena Lee, Violin

Yena Lee (b.1989) began studying violin at the age of 10 with Taras Gabora and Lawrie Hill. She has won 1st and Grand Prizes with numerous scholarships in many competitions such as the Kiwanis Festival, Korean Youth Competition, Vancouver Academy Competitions and CMC. In 2010, she was prize winner of the 6th Wolfgang Marschner International Competition for Violin and Viola in Germany.
Ms. Lee made an orchestra debut at the age of 14, in same year she was awarded Most Promising Musician from the District of British Columbia. She has made solo performances with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, West Coast Symphony, Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Pilgrim Orchestra, Mainz Hochschulorchester, Adrian Ensemble, Mainzer Virtuosi Kammerorchester, and Neumeyer Consort. She has collaborated and took master classes with Borealis Quartet, Griffin Trio, Nai-Yuan Hu, Hyo Kang, Rony Rogoff, János Sándor, Connie Shih, Lucy Hall, Roger Chase, Emil Rovner, and Giacomo Battarino. Her performances were recorded and have been broadcasted in Germany, Italy and Canada. Ms. Lee gives performances throughout Canada, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom.
Ms. Lee has achieved Diplom-Orchestermusik and Konzertexamen with Anne Shih at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz, Germany. In fall, Ms. Lee will attend Yale School of Music under full scholarship. Ms. Lee uses a violin by Nicolaus Gagliano fecit Alexandri made in 1769.
