Lu Yu Lucy Wang, Violin

Lu Yu (Lucy) Wang began her began her violin studies twelve years ago, at the age of three. Her teachers for the past several years have been Gerald Stanick and Carla Birston in Vancouver, BC. In 2009 and 2010, Ms. Wang participated in the Canadian Music Competition and advanced to the National Finals in both years. In June 2011, she received First Class Honours with Distinction for her Associate of The Royal Conservatory, Toronto (ARCT) examination, and was awarded the British Columbia Music Teachers’ Association scholarship for the highest mark.
Ms. Wang is currently concertmaster of the Semihamoo Strings Youth Orchestra — an elite group of advanced string players. In 2011, she appeared with the orchestra (enhanced with a full complement of professional wind players) as soloist in Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. The following year, she took on the role of soloist again in Saint-Saëns’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.
In March 2012, Ms. Wang was chosen as a winner of the Seattle Young Artists Festival, and was awarded the opportunity to perform the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Philharmonia Northwest. In the summer of 2012, Ms. Wang was accepted by both the National Arts Centre Young Artists Program, led by Pinchas Zukerman, and the University of Indiana Summer String Academy as a full-tuition scholarship recipient.
Ms. Wang is a straight “A” student in Grade 11 and enjoys many subjects. In addition to the violin, she also plays the piano and flute, and is the Concertmaster of her school’s String Orchestra.
