Montréal-based pianist and organist Rich Coburn recently completed his Masters of Music at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, studying under Dr. Sara Laimon. This fall, he will begin an Artist Diploma in collaborative piano, also at the Schulich School of Music, under Michael McMahon.
Mr. Coburn also holds his Associate of the Royal Canadian College of Organists diploma, which he completed in 2010 under Dr. Neil Cockburn. He is the Choir Director and Organist at St. Lawrence Anglican Church in Montréal.
When he’s playing the piano, Mr. Coburn specializes in vocal collaboration and early Twentieth Century music. His recent areas of exploration include art songs of Lili Boulanger and Richard Strauss, and the middle period works of Scriabin. On the organ, he most enjoys exploring Baroque music. Mr. Coburn’s recent compositional activities focus mostly on art song, reflecting his increasing involvement with vocal music.
