A native of Grande Prairie, AB, pianist Michelle Powell is known for her dynamic and exciting playing. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and is a laureate of the Canadian Music Competition, the Kiwanis Competition, and the first prize winner of the University of Alberta Concerto Competition: as a result, she performed with the U of A Orchestra under Tanya Prochazka in 2007.
Ms. Powell has performed across Canada and been featured on Global Television (Edmonton). She has attended summer programs in Germany, studying with Ferenc Rados and Klaus Hellwig, at the Alberta College in Edmonton, and at the Orford Arts Centre in Québec.
Having received her Bachelors of piano performance in 2010 at l’Université de Montréal, she is currently studying with Jean Saulnier at l’Université de Montréal at the graduate level. She previously studied at the University of Alberta under Janet Scott-Hoyt and at the Alberta College Conservatory under David Tutt.
She received a LCCM (Licentiate) degree from Conservatory Canada in 2006, and completed the Performers ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto in 2005.
Ms. Powell has received grants from the Winspear Fund, the Anne Burrows Foundation, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, l’Université de Montréal, and the Ranald and Vera Shean Memorial Fund.
