David Hoyt

An alumnus of the University of Alberta, David Hoyt studied piano with Karl Engel, Boris Roubakin and Alexandra Munn; horn with Philip Farkas, Pierre del Vescovo and Eugene Rittich; and conducting with Margaret Hillis and Pierre Boulez.
While still a student, he joined the Edmonton Symphony becoming principal horn in 1975 as well as Resident Conductor in 1985. He often performed the concerto repertoire with the ESO as well as with orchestras throughout Western Canada. As a hornist, he toured with the Canadian Opera Company, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Chuck Mangione Band. He has played principal horn with the Toronto Symphony as well as appearing with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in New York's Carnegie Hall.
Mr. Hoyt now devotes part of his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, as well as to varied freelance musical projects. He is married to pianist Janet Scott-Hoyt and they have two daughters, both musicians.
