Meghan Nenniger is currently 19 years old and a sophomore student at Rice University, where she studies with Kathleen Winkler. Ms. Nenniger began playing the violin at age three.
Throughout high school, Ms. Nenniger was a member of the Senior Music Academy at the Mount Royal College Conservatory, in Calgary, where she studied with Bill van der Sloot. In 2009, Ms. Nenniger received the top prize in the junior division of the Ars Flores Young Artists Concerto Competition in Florida; she performed a concerto with their orchestra in early 2009.
Ms. Nenniger has also performed numerous times as soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra (5 appearances), Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (2 appearances) and the Calgary Youth Orchestra. In September 2009, Ms. Nenniger competed in the Wieniawski International Competition in Lublin, Poland. In May 2009, she placed fifth in the finals of the prestigious Shean Strings Competition. In April 2009, Ms. Nenniger was a semi-finalist in the Johansen International Competition in Washington, DC. In 2008, she won first place (violin 16 & under) at the Alberta Music Festival.
Ms. Nenniger has been a consistent winner at the Kiwanis Music Festival and the Canadian Music Competition Nationals. Ms. Nenniger is a founding member of the Mahewa String Quartet, a nationally recognized ensemble in Canada. Ms. Nenniger has participated in the Young Artists Program in Ottawa with Pinchas Zukerman five times. She has attended the Morningside Music Bridge in Shanghai, China (2006), Calgary (2007 and 2008) and Poland (2009). In her spare time, Ms. Nenniger is an avid snowboarder.
